(AFG-KABUL) Assistant Fire Prevention and Training Chief
Job Summary
The Assistant Fire Prevention and Training Chief is responsible for the safe and efficient coordination, direction, planning, delivery, support, and public fire safety education functions of Fire Prevention Programs in assigned area of responsibility.
Principal Accountabilities
- Responsible and accountable for Fire Prevention Program results and clear communications to Fire Prevention personnel
- Evaluate fire department performance regarding compliance with laws and regulations affecting fire prevention or fire safety
- Prepare and write reports detailing specific fire prevention and protection issues such as work performed and proposed review schedules
- Advise architects, builders, and other construction personnel on fire prevention equipment and techniques, fire code, its standard interpretation, and compliance
- Advise on purchase, modification, installation, maintenance, and operation of fire protection systems
- Inspect buildings or building designs to determine fire protection system requirements and potential problems in areas such as water supplies, exit locations, and construction materials
- Participate as a member of Fire Emergency Services Compliance Team in assigned area of responsibility
- Perform as Fire Chief at a base in absence of their assigned Fire Chief and other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English in order to interpret and explain codes, plans, specifications, blueprints, determine noncompliance, and provide training
- Excellent leadership, management, and organizational skills
- Advanced working knowledge of fire protection and prevention methods, rescue procedures, and safety procedures
- Advanced knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Department of Defense (DOD), OSHA, and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), standards, and hydraulics as they apply to DOD contingency operations and fire prevention code enforcement
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience & Education
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in Fire Emergency Services with at least five (5) years as Assistant Fire Chief or higher
- Prefer Bachelor’s or AS Degree in fire science management, emergency management, public administration, or associated discipline
- DOD, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or National Pro-Board Certifications as Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector III, Fire Instructor III, HazMat Incident Commander, and Airport Firefighter, NIMS 300 & 400
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
