Reservoir Engineer - ECC - United States

ECC is seeing a Reservoir Engineer who will be part of a multi-disciplinary, integrated team of geoscientists and engineers charged with carrying out technical and commercial evaluation to maximize value from producing gas fields in support of the Sheberghan to Mazar-e Sharif gas pipeline and the gas processing plant associated with it. The Reservoir Engineer will serve as a Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum while working closely with field personnel to add engineering insight on producing fields at various stages of the development life cycle and maximize value through surveillance, enhanced recovery, value assessment of exploration and capital reinvestment. The role will involve a mixture of surveillance through to field development planning along with design and support of well work.

The position requires an ability to re-evaluate existing fields to establish optimal economic solutions. This may involve evaluation of infill drilling, recompletions, restimulations, or adjustments in floods through surveillance and conformance work. The successful candidate will need to be a creative thinker that is willing to re-look at existing problems to maximize value.

The location of this position will be Kabul, Afghanistan with some travel required to the Northern provinces to review the progress of power plant development.

The USAID-funded Mining Investment and Development for Afghan Sustainability (MIDAS) project was launched in March 2013 to assist the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GIRoA) to responsibly and efficiently develop the nation’s mineral wealth. MIDAS supports the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) and the Afghanistan Geological Survey (AGS) to improve expertise for resource extraction, develop investor-friendly laws and regulations, and increase opportunities for Afghan businesses to participate in the extractive industries value chain.

Natural Gas is the top priority of the Afghan Government. In particular, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum is currently drilling and rehabilitating gas wells in Sheberghan province. The aim is create a pipeline and gas-fired power plant in Mazar-e-Sharif to address energy shortages across Afghanistan. An 89km gas pipeline from Sheberghan – Mazar, which supplies the Northern Fertilizer Power Plant (NFPP) in Mazar-e-Sharif, is also in dire need of repair. It is undergoing rehabilitation. Completion of these projects is an important step in Afghanistan’s quest to become energy independent in supplying electricity to residents and businesses.
