Afghanistan Public Policy Research Organization (APPRO) is an independent social research organization with a mandate to promote social and policy learning to benefit development and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan and other less developed countries through conducting social scientific research, monitoring and evaluation, and training and mentoring. APPRO is registered with the Ministry of Economy in Afghanistan as a non-profit non-government organization and headquartered in Kabul, Afghanistan with regional offices in Mazar-e Sharif (north), Herat (west), Kandahar (south), Jalalabad (east), and Bamyan (center). APPRO and its individual researchers have undertaken projects in Central Asia, Pakistan, India, Africa, China, and Turkey. APPRO is also a founding member of APPRO-Europe, a network association with a mandate to disseminate applied research findings from conflict environments, conducting training on the policy process, and carrying out evaluations. Responsibilities


Based in Kabul, Afghanistan, the Data Analyst Manager will be responsible for the compiling, organization and classification of qualitative and quantitative research data sets. S/he will be in charge of ensuring full transparency and efficiency in access to all data generated by APPRO’s research throughout Afghanistan and abroad. The Data Manager will be an active contributor to the development of research tools and data collection methodology, working closely with the Research Managers, Field Coordinators and the Communications Manager, under the supervision of APPRO’s Research Director. Specific tasks include:


  • Design and installation of qualitative and quantitative databases to store APPRO’s own project data.

  • Design and installation of databanks storing data from secondary sources such as Afghanistan’s Central Statistics Office, World Bank, World Trade Organization, Eurostat, OECD, UNCTAD, and International Monetary Fund.

  • Assistance to researchers at APPRO in part or entirety on projects requiring quick access to data and utilization of such data as and when necessary.

  • Training researchers on how to access and use quantitative and qualitative data.

  • Active participation in APPRO’s strategic planning and outreach.

Qualifications



  • A Masters’ degree in Social Sciences, Statistics or other relevant field from a reputable university and at least one year of experience in data management OR an undergraduate degree in a relevant field and at least 3 years of experience in data management.




  • Full mastery of qualitative and quantitative data analysis and management systems




  • Fluent knowledge of spoken and written English.




  • Knowledge of Farsi or Pashto preferred.
