Software Engineer II - BAE Systems - Burlington, MA
Job Description: “I’m a software engineer.” That’s the typical answer you give people like your Great Aunt Edna when they ask, “What do you do for work?” This is usually followed up with an “oh, that’s nice” or a blank stare. The reality is that you’re not just a software engineer. You may have other roles and responsibilities, but trying to explain them to someone outside of your field just gets more blank stares. Those of us at BAE Systems who have worked at other companies can relate. It does not have to be that way. The Software and Systems Engineers within the PTI directorate at BAE Systems have had the opportunity to answer that question with the following responses:
The engineers at BAE Systems believe in creating and integrating software that makes a direct and positive impact on the world. We work with top research organizations including DARPA, Army Research Labs, Air Force Research Laboratory and the Department of Homeland Security. We integrate systems that are deployed throughout the world and often travel to the field to perform field tests and installations. In recent years, our engineers have had opportunities to experience once-in-a-lifetime activities such as spending a week at sea onboard an active aircraft carrier (and being launched from the deck), executing ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) missions on an aircraft in Afghanistan, and driving with Customs and Border Patrol agents at the Mexico/Arizona border.
