(AFG-Oconus Kabul) Water/Waste Water Technician

Water/Waste Water Technician


Reports to: Water Wastewater Supervisor


Performance Location: The individual filling this position will be supporting PAE on a contract for the US Department of State and working at the US Embassy and/or its outlying sites in Kabul, Afghanistan. Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required while working on projects and other locations in Afghanistan. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time

Working Environment: The candidate will work on construction and maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with such sites

Work Schedule: This position works ten hours/day six days a week minimum, is on-call 24/7 and must be willing to quickly respond to all critical customer service issues as required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of two water distribution systems, two reverse osmosis water purification units (ROWPU), two activated sludge wastewater plants and one batch reactor wastewater plant. Systems must be operational 24 hours per day 365 days per year.

  • Custodial responsibility for work areas and management of tools, equipment and spare parts for the water/waste treatment plants.

  • Repair, maintenance, installation, and modernization of water/waste water treatment for buildings and grounds.

  • Operate, maintain, repair and inspect reverse osmosis water purification units.

  • Collection of water/waste water samples, lab testing and analysis, recording data for regulatory reports and adjusting chemical feed rates accordingly.

  • Operates multiple water treatment systems, raw water wells, chemical feed systems and monitors storage tank levels throughout the site.

  • Maintains and calibrates hand-held and on-line monitoring equipment and treatment equipment as required.

  • Interprets system operation readings and make recommendations for needed corrective actions.

  • Maintains effective, timely and respectful communication and interaction with other employees, supervisors, and support organizations.

  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:


  • Three years of experience in municipal water/wastewater treatment, municipal water distribution or operation of well systems and water/wastewater treatment systems.

  • Previous supervisory experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.

  • Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, materials and regulations used in the maintenance and repair of water/wastewater treatment equipment and systems.

  • Knowledge and experience with the storage and handling of chlorine and other industrial chemicals.

  • Work experience on wastewater treatment plants and reverse osmosis water purification units is mandatory.

    Education:

A Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator vocational diploma or completion of an Apprentice program is preferred.

Language Requirement:


  • Must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing English including reading and using building diagrams and technical manuals


  • Must have proficient English oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management and the client

    Licenses and Certifications:




  • Water/Wastewater certification or equivalent experience.

    Citizenship:




  • US Citizenship is not required for this position.

    Clearance:




  • Must have a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or the ability to obtain one




  • Reports to: TDY GUEST HOUSE SERVICES MANAGER

Major Duties and Responsibilities:


The Assistant Services Manager duties and responsibilities include at a minimum:


  • Ensures that PAE is providing a friendly, professional service to the customer.

  • Reviews vacancy / occupancy status and room assignments.

  • Responds to resident’s requests and complaints.

  • Conducts inspections of living and common areas.

  • Ensures proper inventory of supplies and equipment.

  • Oversees linen / towel exchange.

  • Maintains key control and signs guests in and out of their assigned rooms at their assigned guest house.

  • Ensures the service desk is maintained 24×7 and will be assigned to either the Day shift or the Night Shift


  • Take initiative and ingenuity to analyze a situation and to make frequent decisions based on DOS and PAE policies and regulations.

    Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:




  • The ideal candidate will have at least a high school diploma or GED and experience in customer service.



  • He/she will take initiative and ingenuity to analyze a situation and to make frequent decisions based on DOS and PAE policies and regulations.

  • The Assistant Service Manager must have a minimum of 1-year successful supervisory experience in a custodial or labor position for an office and/or residential facility.

  • Must be able to lift and carry fifty pounds. Prior overseas experience is highly desirable.

  • Word, Outlook and Excel spreadsheets are required.

  • Previous overseas is desirable and experience working in a desert environment is a plus.


  • Able to communicate (both written and oral) effectively in English.

    Education:




  • Must have 2 years of experience as a Housekeeper or similar customer service experience



  • 1 year supervisory experience required.

  • Previous overseas experience working with a multi-national workforce is highly desirable.


  • Highly preferred a graduate of Hotel and Restaurant Management course from an accredited university.

    Language Requirement:




  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing English.




  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, upper-level management and DoS customers.

    Citizenship:




  • US Citizenship is not required for this position.

    Clearance:




  • Must have a MRPT Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
