(AFG-Oconus Kabul) General Maintenance Technician

General Maintenance Technician


Reports to: General Maintenance Supervisor


Performance Location: The individual filling this position will be supporting PAE on a contract for the US Department of State and working at the US Embassy and/or its outlying sites in Kabul, Afghanistan. Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required while working on projects and other locations in Afghanistan. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time

Working Environment: The candidate will work on construction and maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with such sites

Work Schedule: This position works ten hours/day six days a week minimum, is on-call 24/7 and must be willing to quickly respond to all critical customer service issues as required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Performs planned preventative, predictive, corrective and breakdown maintenance of vehicle barrier systems and slide gates.

  • Maintains and repairs building woodwork and equipment-bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors, floors, stairs, casings, trim, metal and welding work. Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models or verbal instructions.

  • Conducts inspections, installations, maintenance, and repair of physical security equipment and devices throughout the compound.

  • Operates, maintains and repairs all commercial and residential kitchen equipment including refrigerators, stoves, ovens, dishwashers, clothes washers and dryers and all small appliances throughout Camp Sullivan.

  • Uses a variety of carpenter’s hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments.

  • Performs painting and sheet rock repair.


  • May be assigned a local workforce to support the growing demands of the camp.

    Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:




  • The ideal candidate will have a high school or vocational diploma or completed a Journeyman’s Appliance Mechanic program.



  • He/she will take initiative and ingenuity to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications and electrical codes.

  • He/she will have knowledge of the occupational hazards of the appliance trade and related safety precautions and considerable skill in the maintenance and repair of appliance equipment.


  • Previous overseas experience is desirable and experience working in a desert environment is a plus.

    Education:




  • High School Graduate or equivalent.

    Language Requirement:




  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing English.




  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills sufficient to effectively communicate with management and the local workforce.

    Licenses and Certifications:




  • Skilled trades certificate in one of the following desired: Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC.

    Citizenship:




  • US Citizenship is not required for this position.

    Clearance:




  • Must have a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or the ability to obtain one
