Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Independence Program Specialist will serve as the subject matter expert for all aspects of the Independence Program and Long Term Support Trust. The specialist will be the primary conduit for severely injured Warriors and family members for integration in to the Independence Program and transition to the Long Term Support Trust.
Essential Job Functions
- Review and approve Alumni for enrollment in Independence Program (IP) and Long Term Support Trust (LTST)
- Ensure completion and proper storage of necessary documentation for IP and LTST
- Serve as primary point of contact and high-touch support for designated warrior and family systems
- Work collaboratively with contracted case managers to uniquely serve each warrior and family system appropriately
- Research and evaluate residential options that facilitate independent living
- Raise awareness and educate the need to support and sustain the warrior and family system in the community
- Assist in communication coordination between family member/caregiver, program staff, other external organizations, agencies, and healthcare facilities
- Develop and maintain working relationships with related health care and social service providers
- Develop community support and speak on behalf of WWP
- Data input – maintain and update all WWP intranet electronic tracking systems, specifically the warrior and family member, spouse, and/or caregiver database (Salesforce)
- Other duties as assigned

- Must possess competencies related to working with individuals with varying physical, mental, and cognitive challenges while maintaining a philosophy of individualized services designed to empower the Warrior and maximize independence and quality of life
- Must have excellent communication skills and ability to speak in front of diverse audience
- High energy, self-motivated, detail oriented, and supportive individual able to take initiative, multi-task, work well under pressure, and complete required assignments in a timely fashion
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; team player, ability to communicate with diverse personalities
- Able to work effectively in an environment requiring independent and creative efforts and maintain a flexible work schedule
- Working knowledge of WWP programs and other resources available for families and Alumni
- Ability to establish professional relationships for the purposes of creating a diverse network of resources, built on maintaining WWP’s strong supportive presence within the community
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; equivalent work experience in veterans service delivery, case management, social work, rehabilitation counseling, or similar field, may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Prior experience with high level injuries such as brain injury, spinal cord injury and other neurological conditions preferred
- Minimum of one – two (1 – 2) years of working with service member / veteran population and their families (particularly with Iraq and Afghanistan era veterans) highly preferred
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs
