MEMBERSHIP IN THE AIR NATIONAL GUARD IS REQUIRED: This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in the Idaho Air National Guard as a condition of employment. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an Excepted Service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Loss of military membership will result in immediate loss of your full-time military technician position.

DUTIES:
MAJOR DUTIES: (Detailed duties are on the Position Description)

Major duties include but are not restricted to:


The primary duty

of this position is to serve as the 124th Operations Support Squadron Commander.


In addition, the following may/could apply:


Pilots advanced, single or multi-engine military airplane, high performance military fighter

aircraft on tactical/non-tactical assigned

missions using advanced

precision instrument flight techniques in conjunction with air navigational aids. Flies well within

flight parameters (e.g. speed and loading)

to execute normal flights

procedures and standard maneuvers

in all weather

conditions from point-to-point (domestic/foreign) using fully

adequate landing areas. Maintains

a thorough knowledge of the aircraft systems and procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions. Maintains mission qualifications in the assigned airplane.


Prepares for

flight to

include: securing

current and forecast weather information to determine conditions along the

proposed route of flight and at the destination; plans the flight

through the study of maps and charts to determine

routing, intermediate stops, alternate destination, fuel requirements, estimated flying time and, if required, files the airplane flight plan; checks or verifies that the airplane is ready for flight,

including such aspects as loading

and weight distribution, maintenance or service conditions, and performing prescribed preflight checks; ensures that any passengers and crew members

are briefed on the

nature and purpose of the

flight and the procedures to be

followed in an emergency;

and obtains the proper clearances to begin the

flight.


Operates the airplane with the utmost safety to include: adhering

to flight procedures and parameters specified in the airplane flight manual; communicating and coordinating with ground units and controlling activities; monitoring performance of the airplane and progress of the

flight; and takes corrective

action, including the use of emergency procedures as required.


Accomplishes post-flight activities to include: maintaining airplane logs and forms; writing flight

reports; coordinating with maintenance personnel on service conditions; and conducts

post-flight checks.


Serves as the

Air

Commander’s representative

when performing duties as Supervi sor of Flying (SOF)

and is responsible for the

safe and efficient mission

accomplishment of the unit.

The SOF has the authority to cancel

flying activities, divert aircraft, dictate mission requirements, approve specific

activities, coordinate for airport or airspace utilization with FAA, and direct emergency

actions involving UE airplanes.


Incumbents of these positions are subject to rotation to perform

administrative tasks in any of the following Air Operations program support functional areas:


Training

and

Scheduling


Plans


Safety


Inspector

General


Performs other duties

as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:


Positions in this

series involve piloting or co-piloting aircraft to carry out

various operational programs

and functions of the Army

and Air National Guard. The work provides

ground and flight instruction and evaluation in aircraft piloting.

The positions perform

staff work concerned with planning, analyzing, or administering agency specific aviation programs, where the work requires

primarily the application of pilot knowledge and skills. The Series encompasses all functions performed by rated pilots to conduct or directly support flying operations

and training missions. Inherently included in this

Series are supervisory and staff functions such as commanding, inspection, contingency planning, and policy

formulation. The career area encompasses utilization fields that directly employ weapons and supporting weapon systems

to accomplish the Army National Guard and Air National Guard operational missions. It encompasses flying operations and non-operational aviation positions concerned with the employment and support

of aviation

units and elements. This Series directs and coordinates the employment of aviation units in support of land

combat operations. It provides expertise at all levels of command to develop

doctrines and plans essential to the successful

employment and deployment of aviation systems. Included in this Series are Operations Commanders, Pilots, Combat Systems Officers,

Remotely Piloted Aircraft

Pilots, Special Tactics, Combat Rescue, Space, Nuclear and Missile Operations, Maintenance Test Pilots, Cyber Operations, Operations Security, and Operations Support.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:


An

undergraduate degree from an

accredited college/university is mandatory . A Graduate

Degree from an accredited civilian academic college or from an equivalent professional military education

school is optimum . Must have

Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian

aviation programs

OR must have aviation

certifications from

accredited military aviation schools


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Applicants must demonstrate the following specialized experience competencies (skills, knowledge, and abilities) to qualify

for appointments to GS-2181-13 Air National Guard Dual Status

Officer positions. For Air

National Guard positions, must have at

least two years working experiences in civilian aviation programs;

or, military service aviation programs (active

duty or reserve components); or, in the

Army National Guard Aviation Support facility; or, Air National Guard

Wing/ Operations Group. Qualification competencies are determined by three factors:

The aircraft operated; the nature

and purpose of assignments; and, the degree of hazard.

Acceptance of any military technician position may affect your incentive bonus. Check with your incentives manager to see if this applies to the incentive you received.
