(AFG-Oconus Kabul) IT Specialist

IT Specialist


Reports to: IT Supervisor


Performance Location: The individual filling this position will be supporting PAE on a contract for the US Department of State and working at the US Embassy and/or its outlying sites in Kabul, Afghanistan. Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required while working on projects and other locations in Afghanistan. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time

Working Environment: The candidate will work on construction and maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with such sites

Work Schedule: This position works ten hours/day six days a week minimum, is on-call 24/7 and must be willing to quickly respond to all critical customer service issues as required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Installs, tests, troubleshoots and maintains hardware and software products; implements and monitors PC standards and procedures and facilitates backup and recovery.

  • Operates and maintains computer networks and back-up systems.

  • Debugs hardware, software and operational problems.

  • Maintains on-line or manual service logs to track system reliability.

  • Coordinates hardware and software updates from vendors and installs or provides technical guidance to end-users.

  • Establishes passwords for authorized personnel to maintain system security and operates and maintains computer networks and back-up systems.

  • Monitors PC’s and networks for inappropriate activity and performances.

  • Manages the WOW (Work Orders for Windows) program and updates the central maintenance database.

  • Trains operators in proper operation of the WOW system.

  • Maintains IT system security.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • The candidate is on-call 24/7 and must be willing to quickly respond to all IT critical issues.

Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:The IT Specialist shall have the following experience for this position:


  • Must have completed training in Microsoft Professional Software – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and Internet Explorer.

  • Must have 2 years experience as a Local Area Network (LAN) Systems Administrator.

  • Experience debugging software and hardware, printers and peripherals (modems/scanners).

  • Able to diagnose and repair hardware components and software applications.

  • Able to build office networks and CATV stations.

  • Able to utilize fiber optics and network security devices.

  • Expertise in collecting, analyzing and summarizing data and preparing daily reports and work orders.


  • Strong ability to work effectively with multi-cultural workforce.

    Education:




  • An AS Degree in Information Technology, Business or related field is required.




  • Must be able to successfully complete a 5-day Government Computer Managed Work Order System training course.

    Language Requirements:




  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing English.




  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management and the client.

    Citizenship:




  • US Citizenship is not required for this position.

    Clearance:




  • Must have a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or the ability to obtain one
