Job Description


Summary:


Using current weather observations analyze weather data and develop forecast. Weather Briefer will prepare comprehensive and professional flight mission weather briefings using ICAO METAR format. Weather briefer may regularly be called upon to provide weather forecasts to support base operational planning needs.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Take, record and disseminate weather observations through formal weather briefings.

  • Prepare and deliver flight mission weather briefings.

  • Know and use ICAO METAT format for briefings provided.

  • Provide weather briefings in support of base operational needs.

  • Provide weather briefings as required by MeS military leadership.

  • Elements of briefings may include Adverse Conditions, VFR Flight Not Recommended (VNR), Synopsis of system affecting flight, Current Conditions, Enroute Forecasts, Destination Forecast, Winds Aloft Forecast, Notices to Airmen and ATC Delays.

Education & Experience: (or equivalent)


  • Completion of a Military or Civilian course of instruction as a Weather Specialist, OR at least 30 semester hours of credit in meteorology or atmospheric science, OR a minimum of 2 years experience in operational meteorology.

License & Certifications:


  • Meet Education and Experience requirements.

Knowledge & Skills:


  • Accomplished public speaker and weather briefer.

  • Highly skilled using web based weather data sources.

  • Highly skilled using audio visual equipment and aids necessary to provide comprehensive, professional weather briefings.

Security Clearance:NATO Secret
