Job Title:Telecommunications Outside Plant Technician – Rep III Field Service


Position Summary –


The Outside Plant (OSP) Technician will provide technical support services for cable plant related moves, adds and changes (MAC). MAC cable plant activities includes installation, termination (including fiber splicing) and testing of inside/outside cable plant — copper and fiber optic cable, racks/cabinets, cable basket/tray, ladder rack, termination blocks, grounding, and all associated hardware. Additionally, this position is responsible for end-to-end troubleshooting, repair and testing of the passive cable plant and completing installation of cross-connects between active equipment and passive infrastructure interfaces.


The OSP Technician will work independently or as part of a crew performing various tasks such as pulling, terminating and testing copper and fiber cable (including single connector fusion splice terminations) in a highly secure technical environment.


Duties and Responsibilities



  • Perform all support of many different and varying types of facilities, cable, equipment, and environmental conditions and provide maintenance support.




  • Maintain/repair/replace the existing cable plant, provide fiber optic/copper cable fabrication, support adds/moves/changes, and establish/verify all required cable records from the point of demarcation through the customer termination point, maintain clear records of same and provide on time-accurate input to weekly and monthly reports.




  • Installs, tests, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs all cable plant.




  • Analyzes system failures and other unusual system occurrences to isolate the source of the problem and determine whether the failure is caused by cable issues.




  • Maintain manual and/or computerized detailed cable records and provide drafting support for cable plant, site surveys, adds, moves, and changes.



Basic Qualifications:



  • Education: High School Diploma and 5 years of current, verifiable telecommunications integration / cable infrastructure experience.




  • Demonstrated ability of reading blueprints and cut-sheets, producing redlines to design drawings,




  • Experience in testing copper and fiber connections and generating appropriate test reports.




  • Experience in terminating MM and SM fiber – including “splice-on” fiber connectors




  • Ability to test/troubleshoot/repair cable plant (copper and fiber – ISP and OSP)




  • Experience working independently and as part of a larger, multi-disciplined team of technical and engineering specialists




  • Ability to clearly communicate and report quantifiable progress to Supervisor against assigned task expectations on daily basis.




  • Experience working in an active construction environment.




  • Must be U.S. Citizen possessing active Secret clearance and willing to upgrade to TS/SCI level clearance and willing to undergo a Full-Scope polygraph.




  • Additional Desirable Skills and Knowledge*




  • Current BICSI Technician certification highly desired.
