(AFG-KABUL) Network Assistant Administrator
Job Summary
The Network Assistant Administrator’s role is to help the Network Administrator ensure the stable operation of the onsite computer network(s). This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links.
Principal Accountabilities
- Helps analyze and resolve end user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.
- Assists in managing servers, including e-mail, print and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
- Assists in managing security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
- Assists in managing all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, and UPSs.
- Helps oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
- Helps ensure network connectivity of all workstations.
- Helps administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades.
- Helps perform network design and capacity planning.
- Helps conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
- Helps develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
- Helps practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Helps establish service level agreements with end users.
- Helps administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
- Helps perform server and security audits.
- Helps perform system backups and recovery.
- Helps monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
- Helps recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
- Perform other qualified duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Working technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including XP, XP Pro, Server 2003 and Server 2008.
- Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards.
- Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
- Highly self-motivated and directed.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Experience & Education
- College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 1 year of equivalent work experience.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Certifications in CCNA, Net+, A+, etc. recommended.
- Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Travel
- Will vary by assignment, but may be 10 – 15%.
