(AFG-KABUL) Crew Chief (CC) - Flight Instructor (FI) UH1-HII
Job Summary
The Crew Chief (CC) – Flight Instructor (FI)/ Standardization Instructor (SI) performs missions as directed and assists with the management and maintenance of the non-rated crew member (NRCM) standardization programs.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provide guidance to all non-rated crew members (NRCM’s) as well as recommendations for improvements and modifications to the existing ATP to ensure compliance with current and future mission requirements.
- Ensure all NRCMs are fully integrated into the ATP, trains and evaluate NRCM’s in their designated aircraft, ensure compliance with all INL/A Standardization Directives, Aircrew Training Manuals and ATP requirements.
- Service, troubleshoot and inspect aircraft structures, systems, components and related systems.
- Coordinate maintenance plans and schedules to meet operational commitments.
- Review maintenance data collection summaries to determine trends and production effectiveness.
- Perform crash recovery duties.
- Perform daily and pre-flight checks to ensure aircraft meets flight safety standards.
- Ensure aircraft is maintained to flight safety standards.
- Ensure aircraft records are maintained and record all incidents noted in preflight inspection and during flight.
- Ensure that scheduled maintenance is performed on time.
- May be assigned duties as Crew chief or other additional duties related to flight operations as required.
- Conduct academic and hands-on performance training and administer evaluations to ensure crewmember proficiency and standardization of training in addition to maintaining IATF’s and completing required AWIS entries.
- May train, evaluate and document the performance of NRCM’s and develop individual flight training plans in support of the organization’s mission and ATP (FI).
- Perform additional qualified duties as required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Branch 15 Aviation MOS or AFSC 1A1/1A7 series or other military/commercial equivalent.
- Qualification in assigned aircraft before or incident to assignment.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in understanding aircraft systems, components, and operations.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of FAA and ICAO regulations pertinent to the host country and operational requirement.
- Must show documented completion of a manufacturer’s course of instruction, military flight training or a DoS program of instruction prior to deployment.
- Possess a current US Passport or the ability to obtain one before assignment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance is a condition of employment. A current DoD Secret Security Clearance is preferred.
Experience & Education
- 650 or more total flight hours.
- Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified with 150 hours of NVG experience.
- Five (5) or more years as a licensed A&P; mechanic with experience on helicopter and associated sub systems.
- Minimum of one (1) year of full field service within the last Three (3) years.
- Current FAA Class III medical certificate.
- Graduate of the USA Flight Instructor course preferred.
- Previous combat experience is highly desired.
- Previous experience with the M-4, Glock 19, M-240, and GAU-17 desired.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Must possess physical dexterity and coordination to qualify for Federal Aviation Administration Commercial Pilot Certificate.
- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for up to twelve (12) hours per day and sit for up to eight (8) hours per day.
- Must be able to perform rated crewmember duties during mission operations.
- Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
- Must be able to routinely climb/descend stairs.
- Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print, maps, aeronautical charts, and weather charts.
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above/below shoulders.
- Must be able to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
- Must be physically capable of climbing vertical ladders or built-in aircraft steps.
- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds to a height of four (4) feet and be required to lift up to 20 pounds to a height of seven (7) feet.
- Must be able to travel to and between remote locations in austere and/or hostile environments.
- May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
- May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
- May be exposed to fumes, gas, airborne particles, chemical mist, vapors, ultra-violet and infrared radiation.
- May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles or aircraft.
Travel
- Travel to and between Domestic and International locations as requested is required.
