(AFG-KANDAHAR) Air Cargo Handler

Job Summary

The Air Cargo Handler prepares, stages, loads, and unloads all cargo on and off of the aircraft, either manually or mechanically.

Principal Accountabilities

• Verify and maintain safety of aircraft, aircraft ramp area, and aircraft cargo uploads and offloads


• Pre-check and operate fuel trucks, stair trucks, aircraft tugs, baggage cart, mini-sweeper, generator start equipment, and other aircraft support/servicing equipment


• Maintain applicable logs and records


• Assure needed supplies and equipment are available and ready to support operations


• Coordinate with US military units and loadmasters to ensure cargo is loaded properly onto aircraft


• Maintain clean, safe, and neat work environment at all times


• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

• Ability to handle stressful job situations successfully, including working extended hours


• Ability to work at simultaneously loading and unloading multiple aircraft


• Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English


• Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with a variety of military and civilian personnel from various ethnic, cultural, and geographical backgrounds

Experience & Education

• Minimum one (1) year of air cargo handling experience


• High School Diploma or equivalent


• Civilian driver license


• Ability to obtain and maintain certification on forklift operation

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

• Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 70 pounds


• Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable


• Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions


• Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions

Travel

• Ability to travel domestically and internationally

Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
