To perform a variety of moderately difficult clerical tasks in support of administrative operations and ensure all documents and information needed for case files are received and a case file is assigned. Receive, process, safeguard, and dispose of physical evidence delivered to labs. Ensure all metrics from each case are maintained in accordance with the document procedures. To move evidence submissions received among multiple technical specialty units within the laboratory. To assist in reviewing and evaluating incoming evidence submissions to help determine the nature and extent of examination requests and assist in assigning specific scientific disciplines to conduct necessary analyses.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Ensure that all items received at the laboratory are properly packaged; inventory contents of evidence containers, and compare contents with transmittal document to ensure proper accounting of items.
Ensure each item is entered into the laboratory evidence control/tracking system; repackaged to ensure preservation and integrity; securely and properly stored; and properly disposed of (when authorized) in a timely manner.
Assist in the preparation Laboratory Examination requests.
Prepares, transfers, and receives evidence packages.
Ensure that all documents and information needed for the case file are received, a case file is assigned, all required disciplines have submitted analysis/reports/findings in the appropriate timeframe; and updates case management and other laboratory information management systems as required.
Ensure all metrics from each case are maintained in accordance with documented procedures.
Travel: OCONUS deployment to Afghanistan required on rotational basis.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of six (6) years related forensics experience or a Bachelor’s degree in forensics or related field and two (2) years of related forensics experience. Two years of the related forensic experience must be in completing all of the following tasks: receiving and documenting evidence in a forensic laboratory; maintenance of evidentiary integrity and chain of custody; preparation of examination requests/plans based on laboratory capabilities and limitations; and preparing, transmitting, and receiving mail evidence packages; use of evidence inventory record database and tracking system. Must have professional knowledge of basic forensic evidence handling techniques to ensure integrity and preservation of evidentiary items for subsequent laboratory analysis. Must have knowledge of general forensic laboratory evidence inventory, control, and tracking practices. Must have professional knowledge of basic forensic laboratory analytical capabilities and limitations. Must have the ability to use web based applications, entering and extracting data for the purposes of tracking and reporting on case files. Must have effective communicate skills both oral and written. Must be proficient with and have experience working with Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook. Must successfully complete a proficiency/competency test, as may be required by the client. Must pass U.S. Government security background investigation and be able to obtain & maintain Secret security clearance. Must pass both a physical and dental examination (as required for OCONUS assignment). Must possess a current U.S. Government issued passport.
