1. Performs systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, firmware development, model formulation, manufacturing and development cost projections, computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering. Provides solutions to user data access, processing, storage, backup, and recovery requirements. Working environment is spread over entire country of Afghanistan, often in difficult and hostile conditions. 2. Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis. Responds to short-fuse user requirements for systems configuration or change. User base varies in nationality, culture, and computer proficiency. Candidate must have demonstrated ability to adapt to difficult and/or incomplete instruction while maintaining professional bearing and demeanor. 3. Participates in the upgrading of operating systems and design of systems enhancements. Candidate must be familiar with Microsoft Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, and Microsoft Workstation operating systems. Familiarity with customer-specific systems, applications, and processes is a plus. 4. Provides input for documentation on new or existing systems. Position requires extensive communications skills. Candidate must proactively communicate to senior staff (email, voice, and written) issues before developing into major problems. Candidate is expected to present solutions; not simply document problems. Ideal candidate will know to take initiative and resolve issues when appropriate and when to request guidance from above. 5. Develops and conducts tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements. Candidate must understand capabilities of customer applications and assist users in achieving desired results. Must be able to quickly diagnose and differentiate a systems problem versus a user training issue and take appropriate action. 6. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves operating/hardware system problems. This is a senior position and the successful candidate will know to take immediate corrective action when appropriate, when to request guidance when appropriate, and when to initiate engineering change requests when appropriate. 7. Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance. The successful candidate will possess the ability to train, explain, and demonstrate customer capabilities to non-native English users. Patience, tact, and experience dealing with NATO and other allies is essential. 8. Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. The position requires expertise in multi-vendor environment. Successful candidate will have experience managing Microsoft Server Operating Systems, VMware vCenter, and NetApp OnTAP. 9. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned. Current certifications in relevant technologies is required. The team is small and all members are expected to provide skills in multiple areas including Server Operating Systems, Cross-Domain mail and chat, NetApp storage, and VMware. 10. Participates in special projects as required. Environment is military where decisions are made quickly and expected to be implemented immediately. Special projects/assignments/movements/changes are frequent. Successful candidate must be agile and able to adapt to rapid change.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.
5-8 years of related general systems engineering experience with, 2-5 years of directly related experience in systems engineering and analysis to include: •Windows Server and Active Directory Administration • SQL Administration a plus • SharePoint Administration a plus • MS Exchange Administration a plus • Experience with troubleshooting web based applications • NetApp/SAN Administration • VMware a plus • Desktop Virtualization a plus
1. Must be able to achieve Security+ CE Certification (or equivalent) within 90 days of hire for positions requiring elevated privileges and ITIL V3 Foundation within six months of hire.

3. This position may requires deploying to austere locations, working extended hours and various shifts to include holidays and weekends.
