Forensic Examiner- Document and Media Exploitation (DOMEX) - ORAU - Fort Gillem, GA

To provide technical and non-technical expertise in support of global DoD forensics and biometrics requirements and to conduct exploitation of DOMEX material to include paper documents, photographs, computer systems, computer hard drives, external storage drives, thumb drives, and others.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs routine to moderately complex examinations of computer systems, computer hard drives, external storage drives, thumb drives, compact discs, DVDs, video tapes, recorded tapes, digital tape recorders, digital video cameras, communication devices, personal digital assistants, and GPS devices; examine paper documents and photographs.


Determines the best strategy for exploitation; extracts targeted data for storage and future processing or analysis; disassembles, as needed, any components or devices when required to gain access to digital data.


Processes and analyzes extracted data to potentially isolate information of specific interest.


Annotates the case file documentation, detailing the processing techniques and the examination results; and ensure all reports and worksheets are administratively and/or technically reviewed as dictated through standard operating procedures for the lab or organization being supported.


Prepares and furnishes authoritative oral and written reports to facilitate investigative, intelligence, prosecution and other functions that support mission requirements. The reports will require the ability to clearly convey the opinions and findings as determined through detailed examinations and analysis.


Safeguards evidence and maintains chain-of-custody through the use of physical protocols and applicable documentation. Ensures safety precautions and applicable regulations are followed.


Presents court testimony regarding examination of evidence as necessary to support mission requirements.


Travel: OCONUS deployment to Afghanistan required on rotational basis.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Forensics, Media or related discipline. Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the processing, translation, analysis, and dissemination of collected hard-copy documents, electronic media, and computer devices. Experience must include demonstrated proficiency in the use of data mining techniques, document recovery software, and basic computer forensic tools. Must have experience developing technical recommendations and writing technical documentation. Must have experience working within a system with procedures and rules governing the handling of evidence. Must have professional knowledge of the principles, theories, methods and technical procedures used to analyze electronic media, computer devices and hardcopy document evidence. Must have experience in applying problem-solving and analytical skills to develop and support technical positions, to justify technical recommendations, and to write technical documentation. Must have working knowledge of other disciplines within a forensic laboratory to assure that casework is properly coordinated with other forensic specialties as necessary. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have knowledge of legal procedures and rules of evidence to handle evidence appropriately and provide effective testimony. Must be able to perform analyses and administrative functions within prescribed parameters set by client facilities regulations, guidelines, and procedures. Must successfully complete a proficiency/competency test, as may be required by the client. Must pass U.S. Government security background investigation and be able to obtain & maintain Secret security clearance. Must pass both a physical and dental examination (as required for OCONUS assignment). Must possess a current U.S. Government issued passport.
