Field Associate - Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of America - New York, NY

New York, NY. Full-Time

The Field Associate will lead membership and field organizing efforts in California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. This individual will also be the primary point of contact for two part time remote Field staff. The Field Associate will identify, develop, and maintain a cohort of member team leaders throughout their region and integrate IAVA’s programs and services into their organizing efforts.


The Field Associate will report directly to the Field Director, based in IAVA’s NYC headquarters.

Key Responsibilities


Support significant national field engagements including days of action, Veterans Week, and national convenings;


Participate in Field Staff trainings and activities anywhere in the country as directed and available;


Identify, train, and develop IAVA field teams and leaders, following IAVA’s network based model of organizing;


Maintain ongoing and regular communication with member leaders, and serve as a facilitator for the development of local teams;


Support additional activities as an IAVA representative, recruiting additional participation from member leaders as needed;


Serve as RRRP liaison and advocate with service providers, VSOs, community organizations, and relevant DoD or VA entities with support from RRRP team members;


Initiate consistent promotion of RRRP through social media and email engagement about the program and other IAVA program priorities.


Education and Experience


Community, political, or issue-based organizing experience strongly preferred;


Prior experience with the veterans community or mental health issues in general;


Experience managing and motivating volunteers, especially remotely;


Familiarity with Capitol Hill, the legislative process, and advocacy strategies preferred;


Skilled in managing events and logistics;


Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with meticulous attention to detail.

Proven ability to work effectively across teams and to manage competing priorities and strong personalities;
