HVAC TECHNICIAN
Reports to:HVAC Supervisor
Performance Location:The individual filling this position will be supporting PAE on a contract for the US Department of State and working at the US Embassy located in Kabul, Afghanistan. Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required while working on projects at the Consulate in Herat and other locations in Afghanistan. Travel to/from Dubai as required. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time.
Working Environment:The incumbent will work in a traditional office setting as well as construction and maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with such sites.
Work Schedule:This position works 8 hours /day 6 days a week minimum.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide a full range of HVAC Services to the embassy and all satellite sites under the direction of the AEK HVAC Supervisor including repair of environmental-control systems using their knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, structural layout, and troubleshooting.
Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Mount compressor, condenser units, air handler using hand tools following blueprint, engineering specifications and manufacture recommendations.
- Ability to use sheet metal hand tools and shop fabrication equipment.
- Measure, cut and assembly PVC and copper tubing and fittings, including braze/soldering copper/copper, copper/brass, and copper/steel.
- Connect blower motors (1/4-70hp), compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and connect control panels to power source.
- Replace defective breaker controls, contactors, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units using electrician’s hand tools.
- Install, repair, maintain and service air conditioners, including filters.
- Installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC piping systems.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience:Experience in an OCONUS environment.
- 7 years experience preferred with a minimum of 5 years experience required.
- Knowledge in the discipline of operations and maintenance projects in an international environment preferred.
- The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience in Operations and Maintenance services, with a minimum of 3 years experience in physical plant and building operations of large facilities.
- The ability to evaluate operational effectiveness and develop/maintain effective operational control mechanisms including BAS Systems.
- Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data and prepare daily reports and work orders.
- Ability to work effectively with multi-cultural workforce.
- Must have good organizational and communication skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
Previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus.
Education:Strongly preferred is either completion of an Apprentice program with a Journeyman Certificate, and/or be in possession of a Universal HVAC/Refrigeration Certificate and/or have an AAS degree in HVAC/R from a two year college, and/or equivalent field experience.
Must have at least a high school diploma or GED.
Language Requirements:Must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing English, especially as related to proposals and QA documents.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, upper-level management and military contacts.
Licenses & Certifications: Completed training required for a HVAC Journeyman desired.
Clearance: Secret.
