MEMBERSHIP IN THE AIR NATIONAL GUARD IS REQUIRED: This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in the Idaho Air National Guard as a condition of employment. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an Excepted Service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Loss of military membership will result in immediate loss of your full-time military technician position.

DUTIES:
MAJOR DUTIES: (Detailed duties are on the Position Description)
This position is
located in the Multipurpose Maintenance Section of the Vehicle Management Flight, Logistics
Readiness Squadron, Mission Support, ANG Aviation Wing . The purpose of this position is to maintain, repair
and modify various types of motor vehicles, both gasoline and diesel powered.
Major duties
included but are not restricted to:
— Inspects general condition of gasoline and
diesel powered vehicles to determine overall vehicle condition, cause of
malfunction or need for repair. Diagnoses
malfunctions by visual or auditory examination methods. Uses complex test equipment such as engine analyzers,
compression testers, volt meters, ohmmeters and pressure gauges to determine
exact nature or extent of repairs or adjustments necessary. Isolates
malfunction cause using systematic vehicle analysis. Troubleshoots, inspects, tests and analyzes:
vehicle computer/electrical control systems, mechanical and hydraulic systems, lubricating,
cooling, air conditioning and exhaust systems, state of the art fiber optic
systems, engine electrical systems, engine fuel-air systems,
electronic/pneumatic controlled automatic transmission and differentials, power
dividers, power trains, brakes, steering and suspension systems.
— Performs required repair of gasoline and diesel
powered vehicles as assigned, using independent judgment and own initiative on the
repair work. Performs Time Compliance
Technical Orders (TCTOs), including scheduled and special inspections. Determines when and how far major components
should be torn down; what parts and mechanisms can be reworked, refitted, or
replaced with new parts and the type, extent and alignment required, using
technical orders, commercial manuals or local directives. Removes rebuilds, repairs, replaces vehicle
system components. Adjusts or overhauls
engine mechanical systems, state of the art fiber optic systems, electrical,
air conditioning, fuel-air, emission control, power trains, gear reduction
systems, electronic/pneumatic controlled automatic transmissions,
differentials, power dividers and brakes, steering and suspension system
components. Performs operational driving
tests to determine serviceability.
— Performs body repair and corrosion control,
repaints and refinishes surfaces as required. Repairs and/or replaces body parts, locks,
glass etc and determines if additional repairs are required. Repairs may be accomplished by using welding
equipment, power tools, hand tools and other specialized equipment. Cleans, tests and repairs radiators/oil
coolers and associated parts. Replaces
or repairs tires and tubes and balances wheels.
— Prepares, maintains and submits maintenance work
orders for man-hour and data collection accounting. Records work performed or delayed and parts or
maintenance required.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Work involves
the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of combustion-powered automotive vehicles, over-the-road trucks, and
comparable vehicles, such as passenger
cars, pickup trucks, buses, semi-trailer truck tractors, warehouse tractors,
farm tractors, forklifts,
motor cycles, light combat vehicles
such as jeeps and trucks, another vehicles with similar characteristics,
including their gasoline and diesel engines and other mechanical,
hydraulic, electrical, and electronically controlled systems.
Experience or training which demonstrates the candidate’s ability to maintain
and repair automotive vehicles.
Must have knowledge
of where and
how components, accessories,
and parts of systems,
such as wheel cylinders, fuel lines,
condensers, etc. are installed.
Must have
the ability to use test equipment, reference material and manuals, and maintain tools and
equipment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
No special educational requirements needed for this position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Within your application package, you must explain how you gained the specialized experience required for this position. Applicants applying at the WG 10 level must have
18 months experience or training performing a variety of complex automotive maintenance procedures without assistance. Experience which demonstrates knowledge and use of a wide variety of test and measuring instruments in identifying the need for repair and adjustment or in checking the tolerance and fit specifications of repaired components and assemblies.
HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
SUBSTITUTION EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Study successfully completed in a college, university, technical or vocational school may be substituted for experience at the rate of one year of study (30 semester hours or 20 classroom hours of instruction per week) for 6 months of experience. Courses must be directly related to the work of the position.
