MEMBERSHIP IN THE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD IS REQUIRED: This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in the Idaho Army National Guard as a condition of employment. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an Excepted Service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Loss of military membership will result in immediate loss of your full-time military technician position.

AREAS OF CONSIDERATION:
Current fulltime AASF technicians in the Idaho Army National Guard (not to include temporary technicians). Although position is listed as Indefinite, on board technician tenure will transfer with them.

MAJOR DUTIES: (Detailed duties are on the Position Description)


Major duties include but are not restricted to:
This position is responsible for the performance of the full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of assemblies, systems, and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing. Perform duties and has responsibilities of a Crew Chief which involves full maintenance responsibility for a required minimum number of aircraft.

Performs Crew Chief duties with gull maintenance responsibility of assigned aircraft. Diagnoses problems with all aircraft system and components, perform required repairs and accomplishes required preventive maintenance. Serves as a point of contact for assigned aircraft, receiving written and verbal discrepancies from pilots and diagnosing problems. Documents deficiencies, malfunctions, and the repairs required to return aircraft to serviceable condition. Accompanies pilots during flights to locate discrepancies that are not evident during ground operations.

Plans and conducts a flight training program for drill status crew chiefs to include maintenance instruction for assigned aircraft, the use of hand and arm signals, ground handling of aircraft, use of ground equipment, aircraft loading, hoist operations, emergency procedures, etc.

Performs the full range of preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of aircraft systems, assemblies, and surfaces. Using a variety of methods including test equipment, visual checks, and instruments diagnoses and identifies problem areas and determines the extent of repairs required. Removes components and assemblies, repairs or replaces defective parts and components, and reassembles repaired items into the aircraft. Installs, aligns, and makes needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions, hydraulic systems, etc. Accomplishes adjustments to related systems which may be affected by repairs. Conducts ground functional tests of all aircraft systems. Accomplishes or monitors the performance of periodic inspection, daily inspections, refueling/defueling or aircraft, and all servicing operations.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Work involves the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair,

overhaul, and modification of fixed and rotary wing aircraft systems,

airframes, components and assemblies, where the work requires substantive

knowledge of the airframe and aircraft mechanical, pneudraulic, and/or

electrical systems and their interrelationships. Some work situations within this series may

require varying levels of electronics knowledge.


Experience or training that has provided the candidate with

the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components,

and to make adjustments and settings according to established

specifications. Must be skilled in the

use of hand tools and test equipment.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
No special education requirements are needed for this position.


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Within your application package, you must explain how you gained the specialized experience required for this position. Applicants applying at the WG 11 level must

have 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning,

troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical

and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other

mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions

and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics,

military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash

damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel

controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.


HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
SUBSTITUTION EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Study successfully completed in a college,

university, technical or vocational school may be substituted for 6 months of experience. Courses must be directly related to the work

of the position.

Payments of Selected Reserve reenlistment bonuses authorized in section 308b of title 37, United States Code, to Military Technicians (Dual Status) who become eligible for reenlistment while serving on active duty in Iraq, Afghanistan or Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom (in theater) are excluded from repayment. Acceptance of any military technician position may affect your incentive bonus. Check with your incentives manager to see if this applies to the incentive you received.
