Liquid Fuels Mechanic - Afghanistan - Fluor Corp. - Greenville, SC


The ideal candidate will 6-8 years of experience with Air Force Fuel Systems Maintenance, and have an AF Specialty Code of 5 or 7.


The Fuels System Mechanic Technician will be responsible for inspections, repairs, periodic maintenance for permanently installed petroleum systems.Must possess skills and abilities to diagnose and repair Type Ill Constant Pressure fuel system malfunctions. The Technician should possess specific technical knowledge and relevant qualifications as well as having a working knowledge of the design and function of the fuel system components. This includes pumps, manuals and automatic valves, product recovery systems, pressure relief valves, differential pressure transmitter (PDT) and pressure indicating transmitter (PIT), cathodic protection and automatic tank gauging systems. Seeks clarifications and technical support where needed and escalates issues as appropriate. With general supervision, inspects repairs and performs periodic maintenance and modifications to fix petroleum systems.Maintains repairs and performs periodic inspections and maintenance on Hammond’s addictive injector. Diagnose causes of equipment breakdown, test parts, disassemble and assemble parts and makes necessary repairs.
Supervises Fuel Distribution operations within assigned units. Supervises assigned sections of the logistical planning and management functions of aviation, diesel, and mogas fuel missions. Develops maintenance plans for fuel equipment at assigned locations. Ensures that usage calculations, service times, and fuel levels are maintained as required. Completes and verifies forms and submits daily situation reports. Maintains fuel documents and archives files for future reference and internal and client audits. Maintains a training program for Fuels personnel. Responsible for evaluating employee and subcontractor performance, and recommends corrective measures. Collects, reviews, and submits time sheets and work week schedules. Conducts daily safety briefings and ensures HSE standards are observed.

Position may be located in a war zone in a contingency environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions, including lifting and carrying 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time.


To ensure safety, health, and security measures within the contract are met, all employees shall be literate in English (read, write, speak and understand).


Living conditions on the project are most likely austere. The most austere sleeping may be in environmentally conditioned tents on “Army type” cots. Restrooms and showers may be 250 feet or further from sleeping quarters. Laundry service for 15 pounds twice per week is commonly provided. Meals are provided at regular intervals in cafeteria or “dining facility” style environment. Living area will most likely have constant hum of generators or similar equipment nearby.
