(AFG-KANDAHAR) Mail Services Clerk


Job Summary

The Mail Services Clerk prepares incoming and outgoing mail for distribution.


Principal Accountabilities


  • Handle incoming and outgoing deliveries, boxes, parcels, and mail in accordance with standard operating and safety procedures

  • Keep necessary records of postage used, number of pieces processed, and completed forms

  • Time stamp, sort, and route incoming mail

  • Seal, stamp, and affix postage to outgoing mail or packages

  • Operate variety of postal equipment

  • Analyze mail pieces to determine best method of sending

  • Follow up on claims for missing or misdelivered packages.

  • Provide mail counter support as needed to include sale of stamps, money orders, and processing all authorized classes and types of outbound mail

  • Clearly identify (with labels and tags) all USPS equipment, with 100% documented accountability to military or government personnel

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills


  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and meet multiple, daily deadlines

  • Ability to work in team environment as well as independently

  • Strong skills in communication, organization, and memorization of codes, employee names, departments, and forms

  • Will need to be trained and qualified in accordance with DOD Postal Manual – 4525.6M, dated 15 August 2002, before entering into postal duties

  • Valid driver license

Experience & Education


  • Minimum one year experience in mail services, copy room, or related work

  • Prefer experience in Military Postal Service or at US Post Office

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements/Working Environment


  • Prolonged standing, walking, or lifting of weights up to 70 pounds

  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable

  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions

  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions

Travel


  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally

Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
