(AFG-KANDAHAR) Fire Chief
Job Summary
The Fire Chief ensures an effective fire emergency services program in accordance with standards and requirements.
Principal Accountabilities
- Oversee, plan, and execute fire and rescue operations to ensure efficient and effective emergency responses that minimize loss of life and property
- Respond to emergencies as Incident Commander when needed
- Develop and oversee fire department policies, planning, development, and performance in accordance with standards and requirements
- Assign and manage major operations, prevention, logistics, and administrative tasks related to equipment, stations, and grounds
- Ensure firefighting vehicles and equipment are operational and available in accordance with contractual standards
- Assess capability of fire protection programs, identify positive and negative trends, implement improvements, and manage personnel to ensure fulfillment of program objectives
- Maintain records and prepare reports
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety directives, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, and pertinent DOD regulations
- Thorough knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to use of fire equipment, fire suppression, and first responder activities
- Ability to schedule, evaluate, train, and mentor subordinate employees
- Excellent verbal/written communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software
Experience & Education
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in fire services with at least three years as a Senior Fire Officer
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- DOD, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or National Pro-Board Certifications as Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, HazMat Incident
- Commander, and Airport Firefighter
- Prefer one (1) year of OCONUS experience, three (3) years as a Fire Chief, and experience managing a fire department with at least 40 paid positions
- Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in fire science management, emergency management, public administration, or associated discipline
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
