(AFG-KABUL) Physician’s Assistant
Job Summary
The Physician’s Assistant plans, directs, controls, coordinates, and evaluates medical operations and activities associated with the medical care of deployed police officers and support personnel.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provide health care services to patients under the direction and responsibility of a Physician.
- Examine patients, performs physical exams, and compiles medical data, including health history.
- Create working Standard Operating Procedures based on individual site conditions and medical services available in the local area.
- Provide preventative, therapeutic, restorative, and maintenance aspects of health care.
- Coordinate treatment plan with other caregivers such as, regional medical personnel, U.N. Medical Director, physical therapists, or other medical assets.
- Participate in employee training and orientation programs.
- Track certifications of all medical staff personnel and ensures currency is maintained.
- Supervise assigned medical staff and local host national physician.
- Perform other qualified duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to interview and counsel patients, in communicating observations, information or recommendations, regarding diagnoses or treatment to medical professionals and other staff in oral/written form.
- Working ability to comprehend, communicate and apply state and federal laws and health laws, which affect medical care.
- Ability to evaluate and revise care plan based on patient changes and accurately evaluate patient problems and provide appropriate advice, intervention or referral.
- Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the health care team and to make responsible decisions within the scope of a dependent medical practitioner.
- Ability to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as indicated for diagnosis and treatment.
- Knowledge of professional medical practices related to treatment of work-related illness and injuries.
- Knowledge of organizational and medical policies, regulations and procedures, safety hazards and precautions; and of medical equipment and instruments.
- Skill in developing and maintaining records and writing reports.
Experience & Education
- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) certification as a Physician’s Assistant in the United States.
- Ten (10) or more years’ experience of relevant experience and four (4) or more years as a Physician’s Assistant.
- Licensure must be current with all applicable state/education/recertification requirements completed.
- Current Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- At least one of the following: Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support or, International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification.
- EMT-P or military medical 18D equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience as a Medical Director (Managing Paramedics) and/or experience or, experience overseeing Paramedics or, experience as a Paramedic with Emergency Room, Urgent Care is preferred.
- Experience working in austere environments both remotely and independently is preferred.
- Experience within the military as a Physician’s Assistant is preferred.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Must pass all medical and fitness requirements directed by US Central Command (CENTCOM) in order to deploy.
- Must be capable of daily travel in and around Kabul as well as to locations throughout Afghanistan.
Travel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
